Jeff Koons

Excerpt from interview with Jeff Koons by Anthony Barzilay Freund in Sotheby's at Auction, Nov 2009.

"Everything's in play, but maybe not everything comes together in some methaphysical way that maintains interest and can really function as a work of art."

"I don't think we care about objets and we really don't care about images but we care aboput people."

"I don't have any regrest. Artistically I take what I do as a very moral activity and I take the act of making art as something that connects me to others and that allows my own life experience to be more intense."

"In one way it is a very simple process. The only thing you can do if you want to make a work of art is to trust yourself and follow your interests. But then it becomes very metaphysical, time begins to shift and connections are made. I never know exactly where I come up with something or exactly why. I can make certain references: yes, I remember this day seeing this object or yes, I was curious about that, but it becomes very strange and unexplainable about how you end up where you do."

Gap / Whitney Museum of American Art

Gap Artist Edition T-Shirts. Erin Weinger. Los Angeles Times. 05.11.08.
excerpted text:

"A design by Chuck Close features the artist's 2002 black-and-white rendering of composer Philip Glass. Others created new work for their T-shirt canvases. Neo-Geo artist Ashley Bickerton's square T-shirt sketch is in colors reminiscent of Skittles. Jeff Koons used a halftone printing pattern to make a deer's head. Rirkrit Tiravanija's ominous design reads, "The days of this society are numbered" in plain orange lettering." (Erin Weinger)

Fashion Scoops / Hammer Time. WWD. 05.08.08.
excerpted text:

"A new frontier has broken out in the luxury handbag wars — and it's all for a good cause. Rare and collectible Fendi and Chanel purses will be among items auctioned off by Sharon Stone May 22 at the amfAR gala during the Cannes Film Festival. Silvia Venturini Fendi really went to town, creating a plain white canvas baguette and inviting 20 art world stars to customize them in aid of various charities. Participants include Jeff Koons, Kendell Geers, Francesco Vezzoli, Subodh Gupta, Sylvie Fleury and Tom Sachs, who painted his black, signed it and noted, "Please Display Other Side." Meanwhile, at Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld went full-throttle luxury, creating a lustrous alligator style with a double-C clasp pavéd in 334 diamonds."
