Jeff Koons

Excerpt from interview with Jeff Koons by Anthony Barzilay Freund in Sotheby's at Auction, Nov 2009.

"Everything's in play, but maybe not everything comes together in some methaphysical way that maintains interest and can really function as a work of art."

"I don't think we care about objets and we really don't care about images but we care aboput people."

"I don't have any regrest. Artistically I take what I do as a very moral activity and I take the act of making art as something that connects me to others and that allows my own life experience to be more intense."

"In one way it is a very simple process. The only thing you can do if you want to make a work of art is to trust yourself and follow your interests. But then it becomes very metaphysical, time begins to shift and connections are made. I never know exactly where I come up with something or exactly why. I can make certain references: yes, I remember this day seeing this object or yes, I was curious about that, but it becomes very strange and unexplainable about how you end up where you do."

Vogue Paris Oct 09

Vogue Paris Oct 09

There has been lots of fuzz about these spreads. The most controversial photograph being the one where Lara Stone's face is painted black. Although provoking, I think that this shoot is pretty weak in terms of making a statement. It pales in comparison to Cindy Sherman's work, whose work was of obvious inspiration to Steven Klein for this shoot.

The Journal Entry No 27 // Fashion story

Photograph by fashionartedit

The Journal Entry No 27

I recently picked up one of my favorite magazines - The Journal. A new design is introduced - It is larger and thinner than past issues. It also features for the first time (to the best of my knowledge) a fashion story with model Jamie Bochert photographed beautifully by Leigh Johnson. Although I appreciate that the publication is embracing fashion within its framework of "Contemporary Culture", I can't help but feel that it is a compromise for advertising and cry for space and noise on the magazine shelves. I hope the magazine retains its uniqueness.

Juergen Teller / Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood Anglomania / Accessories

Another great ad photographed by Juergen Teller featuring Ms.Westwood herself, her son and Pamela Anderson.

Few ads have the visual stop power than ones that feature Teller's photography - There's always a certain narrative where the tiny details lead the story.

Margitte Mask / Re: Hussein Chalayan

This is the painting I was referring to in my previous post....

Very inspiring project in the latest issue of Dazed & Confused, where the publication invited a select group of fashion designers to interpret the idea of using throwaway materials in the spirit of Mary Shelley's creation of Frankenstein - "stitching together the old to breathe life into the new"

The masks look great! I can't help thinking of the famous Margitte painting when looking at the Chalayan interpretation. I will post an image as reference....

Oddly enough I am very attracted to the Roberto Cavalli piece. There's something effortless and alive about it that fits right in with the project brief.

I'm back....

Dear readers,
I'm back after a long break! I appreciate your kind notes about my absence....
Thanks!
